The value is not just convenience. For a fleet, work done in your yard on vehicles that are already parked costs zero additional downtime, which is a different economic proposition entirely.
What genuinely needs the shop
- Mounting and balancing, which requires a machine
- Wheel alignment, which requires a rack
- Anything needing the vehicle in the air for an extended period
- Internal transmission and engine work
- Exhaust fabrication
- Diagnosis requiring a road test on a lift or specialized equipment
The location constraints
Mobile work needs level solid ground, room around the vehicle and safe conditions. A sloped driveway, soft caliche after rain, or an apartment complex that prohibits repairs on the property all rule it out.
West Texas weather matters too — wind and blowing dust make some work impractical, and we would rather reschedule than do a job badly.
The honest limitation of mobile
A service truck carries common parts, not a warehouse. Telling us the vehicle details and symptom on the call is what determines whether the job finishes in one visit. An unusual component may mean sourcing it.
How to decide
If the vehicle can be driven and the job needs equipment, bring it in. If the vehicle is stuck, or the job does not need a lift, or downtime is the expensive part, mobile is generally the better answer.
And when a job needs the shop, we say so rather than starting it in your driveway.
